Bulimia |

Bulimia is characterized by binge eating followed by purging. You might often hear of binge drinking when referring to the consumption of excessive amounts of alcohol. In the case of binge eating, a bulimic person will eat excessive amounts of food in one sitting. Purging is the act of ridding ones self of the food that was just consumed. This can be done in multiple manners the most common is self induced vomiting. Other methods might include laxatives and other pills and liquids that increase the rate at which food moves through the body.
Bulimia is commonly known to affect girls and young women. Some of the factors that can lead to this behavior are the following:
- Genetics and hormones
- Culture
- Examples (a women that has observed a family member with the disorder)
- Poor self esteem
- Stressful events or changes
