  Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling or sensation that the body experiences as it reacts to and deals with stress. Anxiety is actually helpful! Anxiety can help you cope with intense situations that arise in life. Some situations might include public speaking, a deadline at the office, an exam, or even a first date. Anxiety is a feeling that will help to motivate you to prepare and perform to your maximum potential. However, Anxiety can become excessive and unhealthy as it reaches the proportions of a panic attack or other types of anxiety disorders as follows:

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Panic Disorders
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

The following is a list of symptoms that could present themselves as the natural feelings of anxiety turn and mutate into an unhealthy panic attack:

  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Gasping or difficulty breathing
  • Dizziness
  • Lightheaded or nauseous
  • Paralyzing fear
  • Choking with accompanied chest pain
  • A tingling sensation in the limbs of the body
  • Hot flashes and or sudden chills
  • Fear that you are going crazy
  • Fear that you are going to die

Treatments for Anxiety disorders come from one of the two general treatment types. The choice of one or both treatment types will vary and depends on the preference of the patient and the doctor or therapist. The general treatment types available to treat anxiety disorders are medications and certain types of psychotherapy or “talk therapy”.
